ABOUT SOWILO

Sowilo is associated with the potent energy of the sun. It is a celebration of the warmth of spring thawing out the cold of winter. Sowilo embodies vitality, will, victory, and hope. It is the rune for self-confidence and ambition, and a sign for starting new projects and taking on challenges.

The goddess Sol is directly associated with the sun, arguably the most vital celestial body in the Norse universe. Every morning, Sol embarks on her celestial voyage across the sky while being chased by the shadow of a wolf. She holds a shield called Svalinn, which acts as a barrier between the sun and the earth, and underscores the delicate balance of nature. Despite the perils that she faces, Sol remains a beacon of hope, symbolizing victory against adversity in the Norse cosmos.

Falcon feathers are associated with victory, often symbolized by the falcon itself. Freya and Frigg even possess cloaks of falcon feathers, allowing them to transform into falcons and fly anywhere. Falcons are revered for their agility, speed, and ability to soar to great heights, reflecting qualities that align with the sun's radiant and victorious nature.

Used for magical practices, mistletoe's evergreen presence in winter symbolizes resilience and vitality. In Norse mythology, Baldr's demise by mistletoe led to its association with peace and unity, highlighting its significance in achieving wholeness and overcoming adversity. The round, white berries of the mistletoe reflect the image of the run, and of the goddess Sol. Much like the falcon, and the Sowilo rune, the mistletoe is a bright symbol of victory and hope within a world that is often too cold.
